Police have arrested a man on suspicion of "careless" driving after a pedestrian was hit by a lorry near Heathrow Airport earlier today (Monday, November 8).

Emergency services attended the scene on Stirling Road at the airport, where they were called "to reports of the collision involving a lorry and a pedestrian".

Police later said that a man (no further details published) had been treated at the scene and taken to hospital.

"A man – no further details - was treated on scene by paramedics and taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition. Police are making enquiries to locate and inform the man’s next of kin," a Met Police spokesperson said.

They added that a 48-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of careless driving and remains in custody at present.

An information appeal has since been launched as investigators seek witnesses to help them piece together what happened.

"Police are asking for anyone who was in the vicinity of Stirling Road, Shoreham Road or Southern Perimeter Road at the time of the collision, to please review dashcam footage or speak to police if they have any information which may help the investigation.
