Tributes have been paid to a cobbler after he died following after an e-scooter crash.

Anthony Mumford, 53, was on his way home from work when he fell from his e-scooter on Heath Road in Twickenham.

Tony ran Toes-Knees Shoe Repairs on Church Street in Twickenham for 15 years.

He had been in a coma but was taken off life support yesterday.

His partner Cheryl said on Facebook: "Tony has received the most amazing care over the last five days and we were always encouraged that there was hope of him recovering, even though he has suffered too many injuries to list, with sadly his biggest injury being on his brain.

"It was not possible for them to stop the swelling and believe me, they tried everything.

"Sedation was stopped on Tuesday and myself, Tony's daughters and my sons were asked to go and say our last goodbyes.

"The overwhelming kind words of support from everyone in the community. The words have kept me going in the darkest of hours."

The shop is closed for the week.

A fundraising page was set up to help keep the shop afloat after the accident.

The message read: "Anthony Mumford is a big part of our community and is known for his big heart and kindness often charging next to nothing if he thinks he can help someone less fortunate and always ingenious with his craft work in finding creative solutions to difficult problems.

"Everyone knows him, most have been helped by him in some way and we all love him.

"Right now he is in a coma after a terrible road accident in Twickenham on his way home from work on July 15.

"We would like to help his partner Cheryl and his son keep his beloved shop going so he has something to look forward and help him on his road to recovery.

"There will be other financial burdens that the family face now too and as a community we should all come together to help them to survive this ordeal."

One person donating said: "Sticking another twenty in the pot because we’re no longer just keeping the business afloat.

"Terrible news. He was a mensch; a guy who had strong values and a quiet sort of gravitas. RIP."

Anothe said: "I can’t quite believe it, I was only chatting with you last week over a key cutting and engraving. You made such an impression on me, such a wonderful soul.

"We miss you so much. Rest in peace."

The £11,000 raised will now help pay for Tony's funeral costs.

No other vehicles are thought to have been involved in the collision.
