A nurse is urging train passengers to follow government guidence in a new announcement being played at stations across South West London.

Pippa Watson, who commutes with South Western Railway from Surbiton to Vauxhall, recorded the announcement for Bank Holiday Monday.

She is asking her fellow customers to maintain social distancing and wear a face covering, unless exempt.

The idea came from Pippa’s colleagues, who thought she had the perfect voice for station announcements.

Richmond and Twickenham Times:

Having recorded the announcement earlier this month, it is now being played at SWR stations in South West London .

“The rules on social distancing and face coverings are crucial to keeping everyone safe," said Pippa.

"I hope this announcement helps to raise awareness of their importance.

“As a nurse who uses SWR services to commute, I ask all my fellow passengers to follow these rules to help stop the spread of coronavirus and protect me, my colleagues, and the entire NHS.”

South Western Railway’s, Customer Experience Director, Alan Penlington said: “Throughout the pandemic we have been committed to running a safe and reliable service for key workers such as Pippa.

“We hope that this announcement will encourage our customers to follow government guidance on social distancing and face coverings, so they can protect our NHS.”
