With more than two weeks having passed since lockdown restrictions eased, Covid-19 infection rates remain low across southeast London - though two boroughs have recorded a rise in cases.

The past week marked a crucial moment in the government’s roadmap to easing lockdown, with scientists closely monitoring infection rates, which would have been due to see the first impact from easing lockdown after two weeks.

With Covid symptoms taking up to two weeks to develop, those who may have been infected in the week of lockdown easing would start to be recorded in the latest data.

But the impact in southeast London so far appears limited, with just two boroughs recording a small rise in cases.

The figures, for the seven days to April 26, are based on the number of people who have tested positive for Covid-19 in either a lab-reported or rapid lateral flow test, by specimen date.

Data for the most recent four days (April 27-30) has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.

The infection rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people.

Greenwich recorded the biggest increase in its rate of infection as well as the highest rate overall, rising from a rate of 16.7 cases per 100,000 people to 18.8 - equating to 54 new cases, up from 48 cases the previous week.

Bromley also reported a rise in cases, with its rate of infection increasing from 10.8 cases per 100,000 people to 12.6, with 42 new cases this week compared to 36 in the dataset from the previous week.

In north Kent, Dartford also recorded a small rise in cases, rising to a rate of 16.9 (19 new cases) up from 16.0 (18 cases) the previous week.

Southwark saw its rate decline from 18.5 (59 cases) to 17.9 (57 new cases), while Bexley saw a moderate decline from 17.3 (43 cases) to 14.9 (37 new cases).

Lewisham saw the lowest recorded rate of infection this week with a rate of 14.7 (45 new cases), down from 15.0 (46 cases) the previous week.

The list has been calculated by the PA news agency based on Public Health England data published on April 30 on the Government’s coronavirus dashboard.

Of the 315 local areas in England, 140 (44%) have seen a rise in rates, 160 (51%) have seen a fall and 15 are unchanged.
