The coronavirus rate of infection in Epping Forest has risen slightly in the last week.

There were 89 newly recorded Covid-19 infections in the district Between February 20 and 26 (the latest available accurate data), two more than were posted the week before.

The rate of infection – expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people – currently stands at 67.6.

In the seven days to February 19 that figure for the district, which has an approximate population of 130,000, was 66.1.

Epping Forest is one of just 22 of England’s 315 local areas to have recorded a rise in case rates – 92 per cent have seen a fall and three are unchanged.

In Harlow, the rate of infection has fallen well below the 100 mark.

In the seven days to February 26 the rate of infection in the town was recorded at 80.4 after 70 new cases were identified.

The week prior 94 people had tested positive which equated to an infection rate of 108.

Corby in Northamptonshire continues to have the highest rate in England, with 166 new cases recorded in the seven days to February 26 – the equivalent of 229.9 cases per 100,000 people.
