MORE than 360 people have tested positive for Covid-19 across Dorset in the past 24-hours.

Latest data on the government website shows 362 new cases were recorded across the county up to 4.35pm on Tuesday, January 19.

A total of 249 of the cases were confirmed across the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area, bringing the cumulative total to 18,715.

In the last seven days, 3,297 people have tested positive for the coronavirus across the conurbation giving a rate of 834 cases per 100,000 people.

In wider Dorset, 113 new cases were reported which means since the start of the pandemic 8,120 positive tests have been recorded.

Over the past week, 1,167 cases were reported giving a rate of 308.3.

Elsewhere, 50 new cases have been reported in the New Forest in the past day bringing the overall total since March to 4,601.

And a total of 626 positive results have been returned in the last seven days giving a rate of 347.6.

The Government said a further 1,610 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Tuesday, bringing the UK total to 91,470.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificate, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 108,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

The Government also said that, as of 9am on Tuesday, there had been a further 33,355 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK.

It brings the total number of cases in the UK to 3,466,849.
