This picture of holidaymakers waiting outside the Bournemouth West Railway Station in Westbourne is from the 1950s. It is also a stark reminder of the dramatic changes that have happened to the landscape of the local area over the years. The station opened in June 1874 and closed to passenger trains in September 1965. It subsequently closed to freight in October 1965 before the site was flattened to make way for the Wessex Way.
