PEOPLE are heeding the message to 'stay home' as these pictures of Bournemouth seafront show.

It comes as the Government said a further 1,564 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19.

It is the highest number of UK deaths reported on a single day since the outbreak began.

On Tuesday, BCP council bosses said the threat from Covid-19 has never been greater in the local area, with infections doubling every five days within the conurbation.

Bournemouth Echo:

Cllr Nicola Greene, BCP member for public health, said: "Covid-19 is currently spreading in our local area at an alarming rate.

"As a community we must act to stop the spread of this deadly virus and the simplest action we can all take is to stay at home."

Today a few residents could be seen getting execise on the Bournemouth Pier along with cyclists on the prom.

Bournemouth Echo:

Covid marshals could also be seen on the pier.

England is currently under its third lockdown since the pandemic started last March.

Bournemouth Echo:

Under the latest rules, people should only leave home if they have a 'reasonable excuse'.

Bournemouth Echo:

These include for limited reasons permitted in law, such as to shop for essentials, to work if you absolutely cannot work from home, to exercise, to seek medical assistance such as getting a Covid test, or to escape domestic abuse.

Legislation on the latest lockdown ends on March 31.
