Snow may be on its way to the capital later this week after the Met Office put a yellow snow and ice warning in place for London and large swathes of the country.

Four days after Christmas, large parts of the country was covered in snow last night, and it's now possible that London could be joining in on the fun and chaos.

The Met Office have a yellow weather warning for snow and ice from 10am to 6pm on both Wednesday and Thursday (30 and 31 of December) across London, Essex and all the way west to Cardiff.

Weather experts say there is a "small chance of disruption from snow and ice", with a slight chance travel, buses and trains might be affected due to adverse weather.

Richmond and Twickenham Times:

There is also a slight chance of power cuts and injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.

Temperatures will reach as low as 0 degrees on Wednesday, and -1 on Thursday in the capital ends the year with frosty weather.

The Met Office website says: "An Atlantic frontal system looks likely to bring rain into parts of southwestern Britain on Wednesday.

"As this moves further east into colder air there is a chance of this rain turning to snow.

"The extent of any snow is very uncertain, but two to five cm could fall across a swathe of southern Wales, central and southern England, with a small chance of 10 to 15 cm settling in a few places, most likely on high ground above 200 metres.

Richmond and Twickenham Times:

"As the rain and snow clears on Wednesday night there is a risk of widespread ice forming on untreated surfaces."

Currently, forecasters believe snow will fall at around 9pm on Wednesday, with flurries continuing until 6am on Thursday.
