BORIS Johnson has thanked a youngster who dressed up as the Prime Minister for his school’s “hero day”.

Hudson Rudge came up with the idea when Leigh Beck Infant School, on Canvey, asked pupils to dress up as their real life heroes.

The Canvey five-year-old considered donning a police officer’s uniform, or dressing up as a firefighter, but after careful consideration - it was an easy choice.

Hudson printed a mask of Mr Johnson, as well as wearing a cycling helmet and sharp suit after insisting the PM was “a hero for his work in fighting Covid-19 during the pandemic”.

Thanks - Boris' response to Hudson's dress up

Mum Jade Rudge helped Hudson write a letter to the Prime Minister’s office, and was delighted when 10 Downing Street responded within just a few days.

The 31-year-old said: “There was the hero day at school and he turned around and said he wanted to be Boris, because he saved the world because of Covid.

“He dressed up in a suit and put a Boris mask on. Then he said about sending it to Boris, and I wrote a little letter and sent him the pictures, and then I got a letter back.

“It was from Ten Downing Street, addressed to him, saying ‘I am writing on behalf of the Prime Minister to thank you for your costume, it’s nice to think you think he is a hero’.”

Keen cycling - the PM is often found to be on his bike (pre-Covid anyway)

Ms Rudge said the letter added that the Prime Minister and government were doing “all they can” to keep the spread of the virus down.

Hudson is the youngest of four children, with siblings aged seven, nine and 11.

Ms Rudge added: “I think it’s a Covid thing, he’s been obsessed with him.

“He’s like ‘Boris! Boris is on!’ They wanted them to go as real heroes, I was saying a real hero like a policeman.

“He said the Prime Minister saved the world because of Covid. I thought ‘that’s quite a good idea from a five-year-old.”

Hudson went dressed as the Prime Minister on November 6, sending the letter off on the same day, and received a reply ten days later.
