A wine merchant has completely redesigned his business during lockdown to offer a home delivery service.

Mark Hull, director of Independent win merchant Wine Net, based in Burnham-on-Crouch, said his businesses had to make 'dramatic changes' this year, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Wine Net was established ten years ago predominantly supplies wholesale wine to the trade, but with restaurants, pubs and bars being closed they had to adapt.

Instead of letting the lockdown beat them, Mark and his team decided to redesign the business and launch a free home delivery service instead.

Now, they supply to hundreds of homes across the district.

Mark said: "Obviously many local businesses have had to endure some serious hardship over the past few months.

"Some have had to close their doors for a period of time whereas some have ceased trading altogether.

"When lockdown was initially announced in March we didn’t make use of the furlough system for a single staff member, but instead completely redesigned the website to become a wine home delivery service.

"We now supply hundreds of homes across Maldon and Burnham with the same restaurant-quality wine but with supermarket prices and a fast delivery service.

"It has been incredibly hard work at times but we are a more of a customer facing company in these times and we enjoy putting a smile on our customer’s faces as we know how important wine is at this time to many people."
