A phone company have apologised to customers after they were left without signal for three consecutive weekends.

EE have said 'upgrade works' carried out on two masts in the Maldon area was the cause of the loss of signal.

Customers on the network have been without signal for the past three weekends.

One cancer patient, who wishes to remain anonymous was left unable to contact her support team or any emergency lines.

They said: "For the third weekend in a row myself and a lot of others in Heybridge have no phone due to maintenance work being carried out

"My network operator SMARTY did not inform me of this on each occasion - what has compounded the matter is that as a cancer patient I have no way of contacting my support team at hospital which was the case last weekend.

""We couldn't even call 111 NHS advice line, so how are people supposed to gain medical advice when their doctors surgeries are shut."

The phone network has now apologised and said no further upgrades are due to take place.

An EE spokesperson said: “All works to upgrade two masts in the Maldon area have now been completed.

"We’d like to thank our customers for their patience whilst the necessary works were carried in the area and apologise for any inconvenience caused.

"Upgrade works were completed on 08/11/20. No further upgrade works are planned for the two masts."
