Extinction Rebellion Sutton demonstrated their support for the cycle infrastructure schemes yesterday (September 22).
Activists were joined by campaign groups Sutton For Peace and Justice and Get Sutton Cycling to celebrate World Car Free Day.
Car Free Day encourages people across the world to give up their cars and switch to more active forms of transport.
As part of celebrations, campaigners cycled the route 29 from Sutton to Rosehill Park East, where LTN schemes have been implemented.
Previously speaking to Sutton Guardian, a spokesperson for Get Sutton Cycling said:
"Traffic taking a shortcut through neighbourhood streets, or 'rat running', has many negative effects on residents.
"It creates noise, danger and pollution, and puts people off walking, cycling or socialising on the street.
"A low traffic neighbourhood is a whole residential area that is access-only by car and that is why the current proposals to trial traffic filters have our full support."
A spokesperson for Extinction Rebellion Sutton said: "It seems many missed the memo about World Car Free Day.
"Perhaps as a result of the lack of promotion of the day, or events to support it, there were still many cars on the roads.
"However, we did notice quite a few more children on bikes with their parents, potentially trying out new routes to school.
"We hope to suggest more cycle rides in the future and encourage people to explore the cycle routes around our borough and beyond."
