A MAN who tried to strangle his partner is due to be sentenced after admitting causing actual bodily harm.
Sam Simmonite will hear his fate at Preston Crown Court later this month after pleading guilty to the offence, as well as a charge of assault by beating.
The 44-year-old was due to be sentenced yesterday, but the hearing was adjourned until August 18.
He previously admitted assaulting his partner of two years on two occasions at their home.
It was said that Simmonite, now of no fixed abode, assaulted her first between May 14 and 24.
He caused two black eyes after he kicked her in the face.
Then, on May 30, he was said to have forced a cloth into her mouth, attempted to strangle her and poked his finger in her eye, causing a blood vessel to burst.
In 2017 Simmonite was sentenced to 22 weeks in jail after he allowed his dog to launch a fatal attack on a cat in a ‘sickening’ act.
Magistrates also banned him from owning any animal for a minimum of five years.
