A group of neighbours have been singing their way through isolation in a bid to keep spirits high during the pandemic.

Tony Tucker, 75, of The Glade, decided to start playing his accordion during the Clap for NHS and was asked to continue after the sign of appreciation came to an end across the UK.

Shortly after, Tony's performances became a popular communal event which has seen neighbours in their cul de sac singing along with music sheets.

The neighbours say they enjoy, Sloop John B, Carolina Moon, Wooden Heart, Blue Bayou and now have a repertoire of twenty songs.

Speaking to Sutton Guardian, Tony Tucker said: "The weekly group sessions started because the neighbours found out how much they appreciated the clap for NHS, which brought them all together for the first time.

"Now, every Thursday evening, we arrange chairs in the cul de sac and enjoy an hour or so of singing, a few accordion solos and a glass or two of wine.

"We get between eight to a dozen people, sitting around the end of the cul de sac or in their own front gardens.

"I’m afraid the quality of the singing isn’t up to much, but it’s the enjoyment that counts!

"The results may not be musically good, but the enjoyment is huge and we are now all good friends.

"The coronavirus has, inadvertently, become the reason why we now all know each other and find how well we get along!"

Tony and his friends will sing again tonight at 6.30 pm.
