Plans have been submitted for a new restaurant and bar at a previously troubled party hotspot in Greenwich.

The licensing authority is set to discuss the application for a premises licence at 135-137 Trafalgar Road at a meeting on July 10.

It’s the latest application for the site, which had its licence revoked in 2018 after the former operators were found to repeatedly breach their licensing conditions.

In that year the owner of the business was ordered to pay £7,250 after blasting out music repeatedly until 3am.

Trevor Bailey, business operator of what was then called City Buz’B, was prosecuted after breaching a noise abatement order on five occasions.

The council also seized six large speakers, two turntables, an amplifier, CD mixer and a collection of vinyl records from the venue in Trafalgar Road.

Despite being advertised as a Caribbean restaurant and wine bar, it also operated a late-night licence in its basement where it had a dance floor.

The new application by Bankole Oremede Jones seeks permission for the site to operate as a restaurant and bar with entertainment under the business name ‘Calabash’.

Under the application, the venue would remain open until 11pm Sunday to Thursday.

It would stay open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, extending until 2am from June until September.

In documents lodged to the council, the Metropolitan Police’s licensing team have objected to granting the licence.

In their submission, the police say the lack of detail of the application have them concerned “the venue will become more of a club/bar venue than a restaurant”.

Greenwich’s licensing sub-committee is set to consider the plans on Friday.
