ECO-FRIENDLY drivers can now get a discount on parking permits.
West Sussex County Council has cut the price of on-street parking permits by 25 per cent for those with low-emission vehicles.
The county council defines these as hybrid or electric vehicles which can travel at least 70km without producing any carbon dioxide and do not emit more than 50g of the gas per kilometre.
Transport chief Councillor Roger Elkins said the move aims to improve air quality.
“The strategy sets out a long-term vision that will enable residents, when travelling in a car or small van, to choose ultra-low emission vehicles and travel in a carbon-neutral way,” he said.
NHS staff, care workers, and volunteers can park for free provided they display “supporting evidence” in their windscreens.
