TWO men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a stabbing in the city centre.

A man in his 20s is believed to have been the victim of a violent attack in Brighton in the early hours of yesterday morning.

After the incident in Royal Pavilion Gardens he stumbled to nearby East Street shortly before 2.30am where he was found with serious injuries.

He remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Yesterday police cordoned off North Street, East Street, and Royal Pavilion Gardens.

Forensics experts were called in to inspect the scene, while traffic and buses had to be diverted.

Now, police say two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

One suspect is a 34-year-old man from Brighton and the other is a 24-year-old man from Hove.

They were arrested in the early hours of this morning and remain in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Wolstenholme is leading the inquiry and has appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

He said: “We’d also like to extend our gratitude to the local community for their patience and understanding while our investigation into this complex matter is underway.”
