A 46-year-old man has successfully completed 19 half marathons in just 19 days to support staff in the NHS.

Scott Bemment decided he wanted to do something positive whilst on his 19 days of annual leave, so tasked himself with a string of half marathons.

The 46-year-old says he was inspired by the amazing dedication of frontline staff during the pandemic so decided to push himself for 19 days.

Scott has exceeded his original £100 target and has reached over £1000 so far.

Speaking to Sutton Guardian, Scott Bemment, said: "I'm used to running up to 50 miles a week and thought I would push those boundaries further.

"I was inspired by the amazing dedication the staff were putting in to fight Covid-19 and also wanted to challenge myself to keep the anxiety demons at bay.

"We will all need the NHS at some point and too often can take for granted that medical care will be there for us.

"I hope going forward that governments will acknowledge the amazing dedication and care they give.

"I hope that they will all be rewarded with an appropriate salary and also provided with the equipment to improve this service.

"During this crisis, I feel it is important to all pull together.

"Although the NHS is not a charity these are unprecedented times and any extra support we can give now will hopefully push future governments into ensuring the correct level of funding is provided as opposed to continuing austerity cuts."

Scott started his run on May 9 and completed the challenge yesterday (May 27).
