A CYCLIST was seriously injured after a crash involving a 4x4.
The air ambulance was called after the collision in Kingston Lane, Southwick, at 6pm yesterday
The cyclist, a 50-year-old man from Shoreham, suffered a series of "serious injuries" and was taken to The Royal Sussex County Hospital.
Police and ambulance crews attended the scene and officers cordoned off the road as they dealt with the incident.
A red Land Rover Discovery was left with a badly damaged bumper, bonnet and windscreen following the collision.
Its driver, an 80-year-old man from Steyning, was uninjured and the road was reopened shortly after 9pm.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: "A cyclist was seriously injured when he was in collision with a car in Shoreham on Tuesday afternoon.
"Emergency services were called to the scene in Kingston Lane at 6pm following the collision between a Land Rover Discovery and the cycle, ridden by a 50-year-old man from Shoreham.
"He suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton for treatment.
"The Discovery driver, an 80-year-old man from Steyning, was uninjured. The road was reopened shortly after 9pm.
"Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101 quoting Operation Elmsted."
