POLICE pockets were significantly heavier after they seized thousands of pounds worth of drugs and cash during a raid.

Officers swooped on a property in Saltdean after receiving reports of suspected drug dealing.

Three people have been arrested after a colossal quantity of cocaine, cannabis and cash was unearthed.

Sussex Police’s Tactical Enforcement Unit (TEU) carried a battering ram as they crept up to the door of the property.

Once inside, they conducted a search and uncovered the enormous haul.

The Argus:

A force spokesman said: “Acting on information received from the public, the team searched the house and seized £35,000 worth of drugs including cocaine, cannabis and diazepam, along with £16,000 cash.

“Two men aged 32 and 47 and a 56-year-old woman were all arrested on suspicion for being concerned in the supply of drugs. They have been released under investigation.”

Sussex Police has said its TEU will continue to “carry out targeted disruption, enforcement and patrol activities wherever it is most needed” throughout the lockdown.

The Argus:

The force urged people to continue to report suspicious behaviour and wrongdoing.

A spokesman said: “The TEU captures some of Sussex’s most wanted and prolific offenders, including those involved in serious violence, organised crime and county lines drugs gangs.

“Policing as usual continues in Sussex, despite the current crisis we are living in. This enforcement activity shows the importance of making the right call, and to report anything suspicious to us, or other agencies anonymously such as Crimestoppers so that we can respond effectively.”

The Argus:

The TEU launched in December 2019 and has made a total of 105 arrests in the five months since it was formed.

At the end of this month the team will be expanding, introducing a second team in West Sussex. A third team in East Sussex will follow in July.

Inspector Dan Hiles, who is leading the TEU, said: “There is no officer who enjoys the idea of a criminal evading justice. The unit was set up to target exactly those people, while helping to keep communities safe.”
