Emergency services descended on a housing estate in Barnes yesterday evening (May 14) after a man made threats of harm towards himself and police.

Images seen by the RTT showed a police cordon in place around Woking Close in Barnes, Richmond, with Met Police teams, fire and ambulance crews all in attendance shortly before 6pm.

An eye-witness reported an attempted evacuation of residents by the authorities after concerns the man in question would harm other people in the area.

Responding to a request from RTT, a spokesperson for the Met Police confirmed that a man had been arrested after making threats towards himself and officers sent there in response.

"Police were called at 1755hrs on May 14 to concerns for welfare of a man at an address in Woking Close, SW15.

"Officers attended and the man made threats to self-harm and to harm officers.

"A police negotiator attended. Cordons were put in place," the spokesperson said.

The subsequent negotation between police and unidentified man continued for several hours before he was finally taken in by police:

"The man was detained at 2155hrs.

"Cordons have been lifted," the Met said on Friday (May 15).

London Fire Brigade confirmed their attendance at the scene.
