The A316 Lower Richmond Road and Chertsey Road will be closed overnight for the next three weeks as part of essential maintenance work, and Transport for London (TfL) has warned it may be noisy.

Starting tonight, Tuesday May 5, until May 22, the road will be closed from 10pm until 5am every night, Monday to Friday.

This excludes the Bank Holiday on Friday May 8.

The work is being carried out by TfL and will include critical repairs to the road surface and gully cleaning.

Lighting maintenance, barrier repairs, road stud replacement and other works identified by safety inspection teams will also take place alongside grass cutting and the management of trees and other vegetation.

Richmond Council today advised residents that some work may be noisy, however TfL have said it will try to mitigate the impacts of noise and vibration where possible.

Signed diversion routes will be in place during the works and TfL says it will “make every effort” to finish the works on time.

But it has warned that poor weather conditions or events outside its control may mean it needs to reschedule at short notice.

Parking will also be suspended along the Lower Richmond Road, Twickenham Road, The Avenue and Chertsey Road between 10pm and 5am.

This project has been identified as safety critical and TfL says it is authorised to continue during the government’s current social distancing measures. The staff on site are therefore classified as critical transport workers involved in safety activities in support of the national Covid-19 effort.
