An investigation has been launched after a fire at a bedsit in Abbey Wood had to be tackled by around 25 firefighters.

Four fire engines attended the scene this morning (April 20) at around 7.45am in Waterdale Road and brought the fire under control by 9am.

Four people evacuated the building before firefighters arrived on the scene and one had to be treated by London Ambulance Service for smoke inhalation.

A London Fire Brigade spokesman said:"Part of the ground floor of a mid-terraced house converted into bedsits was damaged by the fire.

"The Brigade was called at 0746 and the fire was under control by 0855. Fire crews from Plumstead, Erith and Bexley fire stations were at the scene."

"The cause of the fire is under investigation."
