Boris Johnson has revealed that he has tested positive for coronavirus.

The Prime Minsiter has this morning tweeted out that over the last 24 hours, he has developed mild symptoms and was subsequently tested for Covid-19.

In his tweet Johnson revealed that the test confirmed he was suffering from coronavirus and had now gone into self-isolation.

But the Prime Minister said he will "continue to lead the government's response via video-conference as we fight this virus. Together we will beat this."

A Downing Street spokesperson said: "After experiencing mild symptoms yesterday, the Prime Minister was tested for coronavirus on the personal advice of England’s Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Whitty.

"The test was carried out in No 10 by NHS staff and the result of the test was positive.

"In keeping with the guidance, the Prime Minister is self-isolating in Downing Street.

"He is continuing to lead the government’s response to coronavirus.
