Extra officers have been deployed and a weapons arch was erected outside the McDonald's in Eltham yesterday, two weeks after a "vicious" fight between two kids inside the restaurant.

Uniformed and plain-clothed officers were deployed on Eltham High Street between 3pm and 5pm, making several stop and searches, and at least one arrest was made after a man tried to flee through the churchyard with a kitchen knife.

There have been a number of recent incidents at the McDonald's store in Eltham, most recently a fight between two children from nearby schools who had to be forcefully separated by staff at the restaurant.

The two kids, one boy and one girl, both had to be spoken to by police after the "vicious fight" on January 29, and Eltham Hill School issued a statement warning students to go straight home after school and not put themselves at risk of getting caught up in poor behaviour.

People took to social media to complain after the incident, with one mum saying her daughter was left "petrified" after witnessing the violence, and a McDonald's spokesperson described it as "completely unacceptable" behaviour.

News Shopper:

On top of yesterday's operation, Eltham South Police issued an update on the case, saying both children been questioned alongside their "very decent, supportive parents at the police station."

In a good example of restorative justice, both children reportedly apologised for their behaviour and to McDonald's staff.

This particular McDonald's store has been hit by several previous incidents, such as in March last year when it was forced to close after youths reportedly "kicked off" three times in one day.

In response to the aforementioned fight in January, McDonald's added that this was an issue also affecting other businesses within the community, and therefore will be attending Eltham Business Forum to discuss potential resolutions.
