MORE high winds and heavy rain are heading straight for the UK with a storm set to arrive at the weekend.

The UK is still feeling the impact of Storm Ciara which cut power to 20,000 homes, brought down trees, created widespread flooding and saw major traffic and travel disruption.

Buildings have been left damaged with the 80mph winds lasting through the weekend and into Monday.

The Met Office says even when the current weather system passes, another storm is set to hit.

Winds look set to gust at up to 60mph across the UK with the forecast for Friday showing heavy rain and high winds across the country.

Winds will approach 60mph in the South East.

The forecast for Friday and next weekend reads: "A very windy, wet spell of weather looks increasingly likely next weekend giving widespread gales."

The Met Office says unsettled weather is set to continue for some time.
