Bexley have submitted a planning application in the hopes of creating a public space for leisure and play.
The application has been submitted as part of the Greater Erith Regeneration programme to renovate Pier Square, the area at the entrance of Erith Pier.
If approved, residents could see a renovated space which would also be used as a venue for community events and festivals.
It would include new landscaping, seating and lighting.
A Council spokesperson said:
"This project will contribute to one of the key outcomes of the Greater Erith programme.
“It will improve the links between the town and the river and encourage more people to enjoy Erith's Riverside location."
Bexley have worked closely with architects BDP and landowner Morrisons on the draft design for Pier Square.
The application also has set plans to appoint an artist or designer to develop a potential series of artworks to add to the development.
Students from The Cass School of Architecture at London Metropolitan University will contribute to the brief.
A decision on the plans is expected in the Spring.
