Age UK in Bexley has received over £400 in a heart-warming donation to their Men in Sheds project.

Carol Chandler raised a tremendous £450 in memory of her late father, James Bearfield.

James was a D-Day veteran and an electrical design engineer.

He was often found pottering in his garden, growing seedlings and working on his inventions.

Men in sheds aim to reduce social isolation and to improve wellbeing by providing a workspace for older people.

The project encourages creativity and offers the opportunity to learn new skills.

The workshop introduces activities that are designed to help the community, giving members the option to pursue projects of their own.

Men in Sheds has been refered to as a 'sanctuary' for those who have undergone life-changing circumstances, such as retirement, loss of a partner, and difficulties with health.

Men in Shed's project officer said:

“With a fast-growing membership and plans for mobile shed workshops, Men in Sheds Bexley is much more than the wood workshop.

“By bringing people together, our shed members can socialise, have peer support and feel a part of their community.

“This project wouldn’t be possible without the generous support from fundraisers like Carol.

“Every contribution goes a long way to help us buy paint, material and replacement blades for our members to get creative with.

“A massive thank you to Carol for your support.”
