Charlton are looking at bringing in three permanent signings this month according to Head of Recruitment Steve Gallen.

With Andre Green arriving on loan from Aston Villa at the start of the transfer window, Gallen revealed the club are keen to make permanent additions to the squad with the backing of new owners East Street Investment.

“We’ve put a few bids in, permanents,” he said.

“It’s not easy, if you have a look at the whole division, there’s not loads happening.

“There’s a flurry at the start, we got Andre, and we were very close to signing another player a few days ago but that fell through for some reason.

“We are now working on two or three, sometimes you have ten targets for three signings, it’s how it works.”

Gallen’s previous signings have been heralded as a major factor in why the club were promoted last season and why they remain competitive in the Championship despite operating on the lowest budget in the division.

He believes they already have a squad capable of staying in the division despite a run of results which saw early season enthusiasm turn to the cold reality of a relegation scrap. A reality that Gallen believes came around after the incredibly unfortunate mountain of injuries.

“We are not daft, we are near the bottom of the league but it’s not what we are thinking about,” he added.

“We aren’t thinking we should bring this player in to stop us getting relegated.

“I was looking at the training pitch and saw Jonny Williams, Tomer Hemed, Chuks Aneke training, Jake Forster-Caskey back with the group.

“Then Josh Cullen, Erhun Oztumer, these are good players and they will help Lee unbelievably.

“I think our job, between myself and the Chairman in the next week or two is to strengthen even more.

“So it’ll be them guys coming back, some permanent signings and possibly a loan as well.”

Bowyer confirmed the pro-active approach Southall and Gallen have had so far in their recruitment drive.

“We’ve had good positive conversations and I came out the meeting room thinking ‘here we go!’

“While I was sat there the Chairman’s making offers for players, I went to drive to see a player last night, the Chairman made that happen!”
