A volunteer raised £1,000 for the Bromley boxing club he attended as a teen to learn "discipline, drive and respect."

Steven Sulley trained at Bromley and Downham Youth Club when he was 14, a period which he says helped him in his future business pursuits.

An advocate for the sport, Mr. Sulley participated in a recent event held by the Queensbury Boxing League, raising funds for the club through ticket sales and outreach on social media.

The funds will go towards to the £13,000 total required to purchase a low emission minibus to help parents, volunteers and coaches support the team across the country.

Richard Foster, one of Bromley and Downham’s Amateur Boxing Club coaches, said: “We’re keeping them off the streets, we’re giving them something to do.

"We’re not only teaching them boxing, we’re trying to teach them life skills.

"Even though boxing is an individual man sport, we still act as one team. They don’t just get in the ring and box.

"They put in the preparation and people don’t realise the hard work that goes into boxing.”

The Bromley and Downham Youth Club has notably been opened with the attendance of Prince Philip in 1971 and again after a new extension in 2012.
