Richmond have announced plans to introduce more cycle bays to the Borough by Spring 2020 in an attempt to get more people active.
The funding is also part of a London-wide programme to encourage more people to use a bike and residents should expect to see more cycle stands at more locations in Richmond as well as a provision of bikehangers in a bid to provide long-term cycle parking for residents near their homes.
Cllr Alexander Ehmann, Chair of the Transport and Air Quality Committee, said:"We all know that to improve air quality in our borough we need to encourage people to use non-polluting forms of transport. Cycling is a key part of that endeavour and we want to make it as easy as possible for people to get about by bike."
"We know that we need to make our roads safer and more cycle friendly, but we also need to provide people with adequate facilities to safely and conveniently store their bikes. After all, our bikes should at least be as accessible to us all as our cars."
The new bikehangers is also an effective way to protect bikes from tough weather conditions and vandalism.
