Residents are being encouraged to register online to help celebrate National Democracy Week and to also have their say’ when it comes to UK politics.

From October 14th Richmond will spend the week making sure that residents are involved in the decision-making processes that affect society as well as helping to increase political participation across the UK.

This means that the Council will spend part of the week ensuring its residents are on the electoral register which takes less than five minutes to complete.

Mark Maidment, Electoral Registration Officer for Richmond Council, said: “Elections are an opportunity to make your voice heard and have a say on who represents you.

“However, if you are not registered to vote then you can’t have a say.

“If you are 18 or over, or if you have moved home recently, it’s particularly important that you act now to ensure that you are registered. It usually takes just five minutes online.”

Residents are also advised to ensure that they have their National Insurance number and date of birth to hand when completing their online registration details.

If in doubt, residents can also check their details by calling Richmond on 020 8891 7775.
