The travellers who set up in Kneller Gardens in Twickenham have now left the site after the council took legal action.

Richmond Council said it received numerous reports of travellers who had illegally used cars and caravans to establish themselves on open land.

Officers from the Council visited the site more than once over the weekend - and, with the help of the police they tried to establish an amicable departure from the illegally occupied space.

The travellers refused to leave which resulted in a legal 'Direction Notice,' - which is a written request, issued to them by the Police which formally invites the travellers to vacate the area on their own accord.

The travellers eventually left the site at 9pm on September 29.

Officers from Richmond will also be visiting the park to access any damage caused and to plan for any repairs.
