A Mitcham taxi driver has expressed how honoured he is to have been a part of this years Magical Taxi Tour.

The 'Magical Taxi Tour' began it's 26th visit in Canary Wharf on September 13, transporting over 200 children suffering from chronic illnesses.

Black cab drivers travelled far and wide to take children from hospitals like the Royal Marsden in Sutton to Disneyland.

Stephen Nutley, 58, has been a licensed London taxi driver for over 30 years and was one of the black cab drivers involved in this amazing event.

Stephen is also the brother-in-law of Sue and Tony Millard who run North Cheam Sports and Social Club who were one of this years sponsors.

This was Stephen's 13th year participating in the Magical Taxi Tour and now he wants to say thank you to everyone involved.

Stephen said: "It’s an honour and privilege to take part and each year never fails to amaze me.

"The volunteers, not just here in England but also in France that do so much for us all.

"But of course the bravery of the children is beyond anything I have ever known."

The taxis stretched miles long when driving down the motorway and was also escorted by Met Police, London Ambulance, AA Breakdown and Gendarmerie Nationale.

The Royal Marsden in Sutton is the world's first hospital dedicated to cancer diagnosis, treatment, research and treats thousands of people every year.

To give the sick children a rest from the therapy and treatment the 'Magical Taxi Tour' gives them a three day break in Disneyland Paris.

The families would not be able to undertake a trip alone, it is by the medical support available that enable them to do so.

Stephen continued: "The sick child is allowed to bring a sibling or best friend which helps them and a parent or guardian.

"Every penny for the trip is either sponsored or donated, just as my sister and brother-in-law Sue and Tony Millard and the customers of the North Cheam Sports & Social Club managed to do this year.

"I personally would like to thank everyone who donated as this being the last year of the club!! The Disney trip has been going for 26 years now and long may it do so! Well done lads & lasses the “Licensed London Taxi Driver” the best in the World."
