More than 13,000 runners participated in this year's Richmond Runfest, which saw a former Olympian win a race and a new 5k evening race being introduced.

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) was the event’s headline charity and around 100 people from the BHF competed in the weekend races.

Chris Thompson was the overall winner for the full marathon where he completed the race with a record chip time of two hours, 30 minutes and nine seconds.

Lindy-Lee Folscher secured the best women's chip time in the mararthon of two hours, 58 minutes and 19 seconds.

Owor Paskar took the gold gong for the half marathon with a time of one hour, 11 minutes, and 35 seconds, with Tracy Barlow the first woman across the line with a chip time of one hour, 16 minutes and 49 seconds.

2012 London Olympic runner Scott Overall won the Kew Gardens 10k race with a finishing time of 30 minutes and two seconds. He was joined by Lesley Locks who completed the race in 36 minute and 31 seconds.

The Richmond Runfest took place across Royal Botanic Gardens and Kew and Old Deer Park in Richmond.

James Hall had the best chip time in the new 5k sundown race – completing the race in 16 minutes and 23 seconds, followed by the first woman across the line,Rachel Badham who won the same race in just 19 minutes and 46 seconds.

The weekend was also filled with entertainment as spectators and runners were given an exclusive live performance with Sharlene Hector and Vula Malinga – vocalists from Basement Jaxx, who performed some of the bands hits and sang covers.

Chris Thompson and Lindy-Lee Folscher – who are also marathon winners, managed to win a holiday to the Cayman Islands.

They were joined by Hannahclara Vilsek who won the 10k race and Ali Stock – winner of the half marathon race, who also secured a trip abroad.

Ms Vilsek said: “I’m so glad I did a sprint finish.

If I didn’t, I wouldn’t have won a trip to the Cayman Islands.

“Can you imagine the adrenaline of finishing a race and then winning a trip?”

In May 2020 a new AIR-RUN event will take place in Richmond Park 2020 and the Richmond RunFest 2020 also returns from September.
