Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses after a woman was subjected to a serious sexual assault near Walton train station earlier this month.

The woman was walking from The Heart in Walton-on-Thames to the train station around 11.15pm on September 5 when she was approached by a man who told her he was also going to the station.

He took her down an unfamiliar route and they ended up in an alleyway where he pushed her to the ground and sexually assaulted her. He then made off on foot.

The suspect is described as white, in his 40s, around 5ft 8 tall with short, dark brown hair.

A 28-year-old from Walton-on-Thames was arrested on suspicion of rape in connection with the incident and has been released under investigation.

Detective Constable Helen Cooper, who is investigating the incident, said: “Although we have identified and arrested a man in connection with the incident, we would still like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone with any other information.”
