Children are being invited to help Richmond design a new flag that highlights the Council’s commitment to tackling climate change.

All designs must be created on either A3 or A4 paper in a landscape position and must include the words ‘Take Action.’

Cllr Julia Neden-Watts, vice chair of the environment, sustainability, culture and sport committee, said: “Combatting climate change is everyone’s responsibility and we want primary school aged children to understand that they too can make a difference.

“We will be asking all primary schools to work with children to let them know how they can play their part.

"That could be something as simple as walking to school or encouraging their parents to recycle more.”

Richmond Council has also launched a campaign to invite residents and businesses across the borough to have their say in the borough’s Climate Change Strategy and Air Quality Action plan.

They are also encouraged to come forward with their ideas on how they can reduce their own carbon footprint.

Cllr Neden-Watts added: “Education around climate change is key.

“The winning flag will be at our Council offices.

“It will hopefully show everyone that we take Climate Change seriously and we want other people to sit up and take note.”

The campaign is also open to other Richmond residents who want to ‘have their say’ online as well as filling out an online to attend the Climate Change Summit in October.
