The latest rumours of Bowyer’s exit will come as a blow to the Valley faithful who have been treated to a sustained period of success on the pitch despite off-field dramas.

Bowyer is seen by many a cult figure at the club despite his relatively short tenure in SE7.

There was uncertainty in the summer about his future with his contract up, but Addicks owner Roland Duchatelet and Bowyer came to an agreement with the 42-year-old signing a one year deal to keep him at The Valley.

Those around the club suggest any move would be a huge shock given the commitment the manager has shown, overcoming many off-field issues to steer the club to a the summit of the Championship.
