Connor Mahoney believes he can show Millwall fans “something they haven’t seen before” this season.

The 22-year-old, who joined from Bournemouth this summer, earned plaudits during a successful loan spell at Birmingham City last term.

Although the season has not even started yet, Mahoney is rapidly becoming a fan favourite at The Den due to his spectacular form in preseason.

The winger assisted two goals against Gillingham and Portuguese outfit Braga before he scored an impressive solo effort in the draw with Spaniards Real Sociedad.

“It was unbelievable wasn’t it? Goal of the season already,” Mahoney joked after the match.

“I was on the left for the first half and most of the second half and I then switched to the right. The right is probably where I normally prefer to play, cutting inside and doing that but the left as well, I enjoy doing that as well but I thought that was the best team goal.”

Millwall showed great quality to match Real Sociedad and proved some critics wrong, however, Mahoney feels his style of play could put smiles on fans’ faces this season.

He said: “I think I’ll show them [the fans] something different that maybe they’ve not had before or maybe lacked before. I just want to bring that quality on the ball and just give them something to smile about.

“Little moment of magic like that today [against Real Sociedad] and hopefully we can do many more of them over the season.”

Now that the new recruit has seemingly bought into Millwall’s ethos he is also keen to help the team achieve its target of a mid-table finish in the Championship.

Mahoney added: “I think a top-half finish would be a successful season but I think if we’re in and around that by Christmas or February then why can’t we go and push for the play-offs and, you know, dream?

“That’s what I’d like to be a successful season this season.”
