Police have said they are investigating after footage emerged of a man brazenly stepping over a lowered barrier at the level-crossing by North Sheen Station.

The footage, which shows the man struggling to get his leg over the barrier, was condemned by British Transport Police as well as other witnesses.

A British Transport Police spokeswoman said: “Officers received a report of a man jumping over the barriers of Manor Road level crossing by North Sheen station at around 12.20pm on Tuesday, July 23.

“Level crossings can be extremely dangerous when not used correctly, and attempting to cross when the barriers up could easily result in death or serious injury.

An eyewitness to the incident, David Mawson, said: “I couldn't believe my eyes to be honest as I was pulling up to the barrier. The barrier dropped and a few seconds later the culprit climbed over.

“This could well have been a tragedy as the train that passed was travelling at high speed.”
