With Hampton Court Flower Show closing this weekend keen gardeners will be turning back their attention to their own floral displays, with a view to picking up a Merit Award of their own.

Beginning this coming Monday, July 8, and continuing to end of Sunday, July 14, the Richmond Borough in Bloom judging teams will be out and about visiting front gardens, house frontages, shops, pubs and communal areas entered in the 10 categories of this year’s competitions.

Pat Schooling, chair of the Borough in Bloom committee, said: “We have had the highest number of entries of the last six years, the greatest increase being for front gardens.

“We regret we cannot let people know exactly which day to expect our judges, but it is not necessary to be present when they visit except for estates where representatives are contacted in advance.

“In any case we know that keen gardeners keep their displays at their best all through the season.”

No doubt, though, entrants will have the watering can out and the deadheading done with extra attention through next week.
