Residents in St Margarets have set up a new charity as part of a community effort to replace a derelict park pavilion with a new centre at the "heart" of the community.

The group plans to replace the old Pavilion in Moormead Park with a multi-use space that will be open to schools, churches, residents and sports clubs.

The Pavilion’s new look has come from plans drawn up by residents, who set up the Moormead Community & Sports Pavilion Charity to build the new facility.

Resident of St Margarets for 15 years, and trustee for the charity, Gariesh Sharma, said: “It is really exciting to see our vision for the Pavilion turning into something more tangible.

“After years of discussions with local stakeholders, we now have a fabulous set of plans that show how the new Pavilion will complement the park and benefit the local community.”

Plans for the new Pavilion include toilet facilities, a café and a meadow roof to increase the habitats available to birds, bees, butterflies and insects.

The Moormead Community & Sports Pavilion Charity predict the new building will be used by local sports clubs which include Moormead FC, Twickenham Cygnets FC, Twickenham Saints FC, Moormead Cricket, the Junior Parkrun and St Margaret’s Fair.

The charity also launched its crowdfunding campaign in the hopes that residents would raise an extra £5,000 for the project over the next 50 days.

Gariesh added: “This will kick start our funding campaign by showing how passionately the local community feels about this project.

“The next step will be to approach large organisations such as the London Marathon Charitable Trust for grants.”
