Police have charged a Twickenham teen after an officer was allegedly bashed on the head with a hammer in Whitton.
Brandon Flanagan, 18, of Bell Lane, was charged yesterday with GBH, intent to resist arrest, possession of a bladed article, possession of an offensive weapon and allowing himself to be carried on a stolen vehicle.
Police were called to an underpass on Monday following reports that two men on a moped were behaving suspiciously.
Allegedly, as the pair tried to evade arrest on the moped one of them drew a hammer, striking an officer on the head, cutting him.
The suspects were subsequently captured, with a taser being used to detain one of the suspects.
A 16-year-old boy from Twickenham was arrested and released under investigation.
Chief Superintendent Sally Benatar said: “These attending officers were brave and resilient in their efforts to stop these suspects.
"Even when presented with a dangerous weapon they acted in the best traditions of the Met and stood their ground.
"Their determination led to these armed suspects being arrested. I am very proud of them.
"We all wish the injured officer a speedy recovery and appeal for anyone who saw the suspects behaving suspiciously around the underpass by Jubilee Avenue or High Street, Whitton area to contact police.”
