Charlton’s extra-time equaliser was the most important strike of Darren Pratley’s career according to the midfielder.

Pratley struck a minute after John Marquis put Doncaster Rovers ahead for the first time in the tie ten minutes in to extra time, before going on to win the contest on penalties.

The 34-year-old has played over 400 league games in a 16-year career and has scored on 45 occasions, but none more crucial than his strike at The Valley on Friday night.

“It’s probably the most important goal I’ve scored because we need it, we need to get promoted,” said Pratley.

“For the club, it’s a big London club, we’ve worked so hard all year so it’ll be great to get promoted at Wembley.”

Pratley started both legs of the semi-final on the bench, coming on for Albie Morgan at half-time to impress at The Valley.

“If you’re asking me if I want to start, of course I do, but the team’s more important,” he continued.

“For the majority of my career I’ve played.

“I’m gutted when I don’t play, I’ll take it home sometimes but I won’t be knocking on the manager’s door.

“He’ll pick the best team he believes to win the game, if I come on and play a part I’ll be happy.

“If you’re younger you’re a bit more selfish if you’re not in the team.

“I want to be the best team player and show a good example.

“If I’m not playing I want to come on and help and that’s what I continue to do.”
