Charlton haven’t and won’t be practicing penalties ahead of their second leg showdown with Doncaster on Friday.

With no away-goal rule in place during the play-off semi-final, a defeat by one goal would mean the tie could go to spot-kicks if the sides can’t be separated by 30 minutes of extra-time after the first leg finished 2-1 to The Addicks.

Lee Bowyer, the Charlton Manager, has said he doesn’t see the benefit of practicing having been through the drama of a shoot-out as a player himself.

“I don’t think you can re-create it,” said Bowyer.

“I’ve missed about two or three in those situations.

“I practised a week before, but you can’t re-enact the extra pressure, the tiredness.

“You got to remember they played 90 minutes plus an extra half hour, your legs aren’t the same.

“I remember taking one in the cup and missing, my legs were like jelly.

“You can’t recreate it on the training pitch, the pressure, the crowd cheering, the crowd booing.

“We might look at their goalie, but you can go out there take 100 and score 100, but there’s every chance you can take one on the day and miss.”

Charlton have had four penalty takers this season in Karlan Grant, Lyle Taylor, Toby Stevenson and Tariqe Fosu.

But with Grant no longer at the club and Stevenson and Fosu not featuring regularly for the first XI, Bowyer and the majority of the Valley will be hoping the 12-yard coin-flip will not be needed.
