More than three years ago it was announced that 206 jobs would be lost due to the closure of the Twickenham Greggs factory.

Now plans have been submitted to demolish the remaining building and build 116 homes in its place.

A planning application submitted by Assael Architecture on behalf of London Square said it would be a "comprehensive redevelopment" of the Gould Road site with buildings ranging between two and five storeys tall.

"Given the site’s location within a primarily residential area and the identified amenity impacts and site constraints associated with HGV movement to and from the site, the continued use of

the site for employment led floorspace is considered unsuitable," the application read.

"Furthermore, there is an acute housing shortage across London and within Richmond and the site is considered appropriate to deliver an important contribution to the overall housing supply and affordable housing offer within the borough.

"The proposals therefore comprise a sensitive residential led scheme with an element of affordable office floorspace."

It also said that a "good level" of affordable housing would be made available, but provided no specific numbers.

A total of 115 parking spots would be provided, as well as 228 cycle spaces.
