Police have stepped up patrols following a rise in reported burglaries - particularly around Stoneleigh and Worcester Park - during recent months.

Surrey Police confirmed there has been increase in reported incidents since last autumn and will now focus efforts on “hotspot areas”.

Arrests have also been made while several investigations remain ongoing.

The force said: “Burglary can be very distressing for its victims and we would like to reassure our local communities that we are doing all we can to prevent them from happening in the first place and to target offenders.”

Epsom and Ewell MP Chris Grayling has been in discussions with police following the “spate” of burglaries in the Stoneleigh and Worcester Park areas.

The transport secretary said there will be “extra resources” in Epsom and Ewell to “try to deal with the problem”.

He added: “There will be more police available to respond to reports about suspicious activity, as well as extra effort to catch the perpetrators.”
