Three former teachers at a school once attended by David Bowie have been struck off after "fabricating" students' coursework.

The teachers were accused of "misleading an investigation" after supposedly meddling with results.

An investigation was launched in 2013 after some staff at Ravens Wood School in Keston were accused of boosting pupil performance by interfering with assessments.

EdExcel, the body that awards BTec qualifications, investigated over 200 student files.

Rather than exams, the work was accumulated throughout the year before being handed over to an independent body to mark.

If the work was of a suitable standard a BTec qualification would then be offered.

EdExcel staff turned up to the school in 2013 to demand samples of the work after suspicions were raised.

A case against teachers Paul Bilsby, Kevin Saunders and Andrew Wallace has now been heard.

The Teaching Regulation Agency has published its findings and found that all three dragged the profession into disrepute.

Witnesses included former teachers at the school and allegations of "misinterpretation over-marking" were relayed.

It was revealed Mr Saunders "was involved in the submission of false information to an examining board and the fabrication of coursework, both activities designed to mislead the statutory authorities with regard to an important element of the pupils".

Mr Bilsby was accused of having "instructed junior members of staff to fabricate pupils' work for submission to EdExcel in an attempt to cover up his dishonest conduct".

Mr Wallace was also found to have fallen "significantly short of the standards expected of the profession".

It was discovered he arranged a meeting to influence staff to behave in a way that would "mislead an investigation".

The panel concluded all allegations relating to the three teachers were proven.

It described their actions as "unacceptable professional conduct".

All three men can no longer teach in any school, sixth form college, relevant youth accommodation or children’s home in England.

A spokesman for Ravens Wood School told News Shopper: "This matter, and the employment of the staff involved, took place six years ago, under completely different leadership at the school.

"None of those involved have worked at Ravens Wood since. Therefore, we are only able to comment on current practice, which all examinations boards have confirmed is both robust and compliant."
