Major gas works in Richmond Road is about to bring the town to a standstill for the next two months.

The upgrades are due to begin on March 25 and will start opposite St Stephen’s Church and finish at the junction with St Margaret’s Road.

There will be temporary traffic signals in place until April 7, which will be manually controlled between 7am and 7pm.

For the remaining six weeks, there will be a southbound directional closure in place on Richmond Road, junction with St Margaret’s Road.

Traffic will be diverted along St Margaret’s Road, onto the A316 Chertsey Road, then onto the A310 London Road and finally Arragon Road.

There will also be bus stop closures and diversions on affected routes. Buses will use Crown Road to maintain services.

On top of that, there will be parking suspensions along Crown Road for the duration of the directional closure. St Stephens Gardens will also be closed for the duration of the works.

Richmond Council apologised for "any inconvenience and appreciate the patience shown by residents, businesses and commuters in and around Richmond Road whilst Cadent Gas complete these works."
